SHIELD Illinois COVID-19 Testing Info for the Public

Free COVID-19 Saliva-Based Testing

The SHIELD Illinois COVID-19 test is a PCR test offered.

Regular testing hours are:

  • Mondays 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CLOSED June 17-June 21,  2022)

  • Tuesdays: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Wednesdays: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Thursdays: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Fridays: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Appointments are preferred. Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration for the SHIELD Portal will speed up the check-out process.

Results are available via email within 24 hours.

Children under 18 welcome. Register parent/guardian and add each child as dependent.

Pre-Register:

Sign up for an account on the SHIELD Illinois portal and schedule your test appointment. (You will receive a text message for verification, so have your mobile phone handy. Check your junk e-mail folder if you used e-mail.)

Use link: Sign up for an account (under the Password box)

Use appropriate Agency Code for Community: df5brbrj
Fill in all information and click “Submit.”

Appointment Location: 545 Tollgate Rd Suite C, in Elgin ILL, “60123 House Of Restoration Community Outreach.”

Enter:  HOUSE OF RESTORATION, 545 TOLLGATE RD SUITE C. Close to 90&31 We are right on 31 going north, at the light you will see a BP Green gas station make a left pass the Quality Inn on your left side, Turn left into driveway. Look for our logo on the wall H.O.R. 
The SHIELD testing site offers walk-up service. once You are Here you can call 224-856-1214, Bring your QR code on your mobile phone or printed out to speed the check-out process.

Before your test:

Before your test, do not eat, drink (including water), brush teeth, chew gum, smoke, or use tobacco products within 60 minutes of providing a saliva sample. Doing any of these things within 60 minutes of providing a sample could produce an inconclusive result and require the individual to re-test.

Remove all lip cosmetics (lipstick, lip balm, etc.)

When you come to our location office, have your QR code that will be sent to you when you make your appointment. You will then pick up a tube and drool into it until an adequate sample is obtained. This usually takes only a few minutes. Test results will be posted in the SHIELD Illinois patient portal after the lab results are completed.
